KAPLAN COLLEGE PREPARATORY SCHOOL KICKS OFF

ONLINE SUMMER SCHOOL ENROLLMENT

HOLLYWOOD, Fla-- April 17, 2008-- Kaplan College Preparatory School (KCPS), a leading provider of private online college preparatory high school education, is kicking off its summer school season, providing students with the convenience of taking online courses that won’t interfere with summer camp, jobs or vacation plans. KCPS is offering more than 45 online courses, including core curriculum, honors and SAT prep classes, that can be taken virtually anywhere at any time.

“A growing number of students are opting for online summer school to take advanced-level courses not offered at their brick-and-mortar schools or to make up for a low or failed grade” said Timothy Lafferty, Ed.D., the Principal of KCPS. “Taking classes online means that students can get ahead and don’t have to forfeit summer fun to sit in a classroom. Instead, they can attend school virtually any time from anywhere as long as there is an Internet connection.”

At KCPS, summer school students can choose from a variety of online courses, from Earth Science to Physics, from pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus, and from 8th grade Language Arts to English 4 Honors: British Literature. The school also offers electives, including Consumer Math, designed to teach students concepts about money, including shopping, spending, debt and savings.

Students get one-on-one attention from certified teachers, who they communicate with via email, Instant Messaging and phone. The curriculum also includes embedded video, audio and animation to provide a more engaging and stimulating online learning environment for students.

More and more K-12 students are turning to online courses as a flexible and convenient way to take a rigorous course work at a time and location that works best for them. K-12 virtual schools and online learning is growing an estimated 30 percent annually, according to the North American Council on Online Education. Overall, the number of K-12 students in the United States engaged in online courses in 2005-2006 was estimated to be 700,000, according to the Sloan Consortium, which researches online education.

Kaplan College Preparatory School is operated by Kaplan Virtual Education, which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).

Students may start the eight-week courses any time between May 1 and Aug. 1. For more information or to enroll, visit www.kaplancollegepreparatory.com or call 877-871-8163.
