PITTSBURGH, Aug. 28, 2008—Kaplan Career Institute ICM Campus is now enrolling for its new electrical technician diploma program.  The program aims to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue an entry-level position as an electrical technician.  Classes begin Sept. 15.

The program provides instruction in the fundamentals of electricity and its practical applications.  Students can learn about direct-current and alternating-current circuitry, as well as residential, commercial and industrial wiring.  The program also addresses topics such as motors and motor-control circuits, transformers and lighting installations.  Instruction in the National Electrical Code’s requirements for safe electrical system installations is included throughout the program.

“We are pleased to offer the electrical technician program and look forward to sending our graduates into the Pittsburgh-area to help fill the demand for entry-level professionals in the electrical field,” said Hunter Hopkins, president of Kaplan Career Institute ICM campus.  “Kaplan Career Institute strives to offer high-quality, postsecondary programs in high-demand fields to the greater Pittsburgh metropolitan area.  Our objective is to serve the needs of our students and our community for many years to come.”

Graduates of the program may search for entry-level employment as electrical technicians within various capacities and companies associated with electrical work including commercial and residential building construction and design, construction equipment and supply, residential field services and installation, new construction projections, additions for restoration and remodeling sites, and commercial maintenance.

The 48-week program emphasizes hands-on instruction.  Students will have the opportunity to work in the campus’ “stick” room, which resembles the framework of a house ready for electrical wiring.  Three other labs and classrooms are dedicated to the electrical technician program.

Kaplan Career Institute – ICM Campus is accredited by the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools(ACICS).  ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.  The ICM campus offers 22 diploma and associate degree programs in fields including business, fashion, information technology, allied health, criminal justice, legal studies and office administration.
