Abraham Varghese Named SVP North American Partnerships For Kaplan International to Oversee University Pathway Programs

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –- (December 15, 2015) — Abraham Varghese was named Senior Vice President, North American Partnerships for Kaplan International, it was announced today by Andrew Thick, Senior Vice President of Kaplan International Higher Education. In this role, Varghese will head up Kaplan’s Global Pathways division in North America.

Currently, Kaplan International has partnerships with: Northeastern University (Boston, MA ), Merrimack College (Andover, MA), Pace University (New York, NY), and Quinnipiac University (Hamden, CT) to support applications for direct entry to a degree, and provide academic, cultural and English language programs to help international students acclimate to the United States and matriculate to the host university.

Additionally, as part of the Consortium of North American Universities (CNAU), Kaplan International delivers the US Pathway Program (USPP) in China and Nigeria to prepare students there for entry into the sophomore year of a bachelor’s degree at one of the CNAU members: Baylor University (Waco, TX), DePaul University (Chicago, IL), Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY), Northeastern University, and the University of Vermont (Burlington).

“Abe’s appointment reflects the growing interest on the part of many families around the world to send their children to leading English-speaking colleges and universities,” said Mr. Thick. “It also reflects the growing interest at American universities to expand their student enrollments to include more international students.”

Kaplan has been offering pathway programs since 2005 and was the first to create programs in North America (2007). Kaplan International maintains student recruitment offices in over 30 cities worldwide, reaching more than 120 countries and has pathways partnerships with over 30 university partners across the US, UK and Australia, enrolling more than 13,000 students each year.
Prior to joining Kaplan, Varghese held several senior positions, including CEO-India, at Academic Partnerships LLC (Dallas, TX). He also served as the Assistant Provost for Globalization at the University of Miami (FL). His nearly two decades of experience has focused on delivering global partnerships in 40 countries working with universities, economic development agencies, corporations and government officials.

He earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Kerala, India.
Varghese will split his time between the North American Pathways office in Boston, MA and Kaplan’s headquarter offices in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
